During our most recent visit to Cape Town, we checked in at the exquisite Purple Rayn Boutique Guest House surrounded by the Cecelia forest in Constantia.
The owners took inspiration from the Phantom of the Opera and designed the look and feel of the restaurants, bar and guest rooms around the production.
The 12 suites are all uniquely and lavishly decorated. Our suite was massive with a large balcony, a big, luxurious bath and shower and a much-needed coffee bar for that first hit of caffeine in the morning!
Purple Rayn offers 2 swimming pools, the Opera Café for your own customised breakfasts and lunches and the Phantom Taste Room offering freshly made sushi, tapas and snack plates.
As you can see from a few of the meals we had, the food is out of this world. Executive chef Warren Carney is inventive, talented and passionate and his combinations of flavours and textures are Michelin Star worthy.
They have 4 kitchens, a sushi kitchen at the bar where Chef Geoff creates a feast for the eyes and your taste buds, another in the Rooftop Theatre which is an excellent location for celebrations, and one conveniently located next to the piazza which is ideal for outdoor events.
One of our highlights was spending time at the in-house Amani Spa. Colleen’s magical hands had us both relaxed after massages and the nail bar team gave us excellent mani’s and pedi’s. Colleen is also a skilled hairdresser who managed to get some curls into my limp hair. She’s an absolute gem and a kind, wise soul who I spent ages talking to almost every day.
The staff running the hotel deserve a mention too! From the delightful Sam at reception; the friendly servers, Abel and Nicky and to being treated like family by the managers, Paul and Annie, and the GM, Graham. We especially loved all the advice from the team on where to go and eat, what to see and do during our stay.
Our aim for our vacation was to unwind and relax after a very stressful 6 months for both us, the team at Purple Rayn certainly made sure of that and we were really sad to be going home ‘as soon’ as we did – we wished we’d booked another week!
If you’re planning a visit to Cape Town, I can highly recommend a visit to Purple Rayn, whether it’s for a meal or to spoil yourself with staying a few nights.
