Anyone who wears liquid lipstick; or any lipstick for that matter, knows just how important smooth lips are to give you that smooth, finished look. And while lip scrubs have been around for a long while, they have never been more part of my make up routine as now. I tested (and tasted) some of the latest sugar scrubs on the market to find which one works best for me.
Jeffree Star Velour Lip Scrub Purify & Unclog
What they say… “This exfoliating treat buffs away dead skin to leave your lips ready for flawless lipstick application. Use our delicious sugar-based lip scrub to prep your lips before applying any liquid lipstick. Take a scoop out and rub your mouth in circular motions. Lick away the excess (yes, it’s edible!) or wipe off with a tissue. This product is Vegan. 100% cruelty-free. Paraben & Gluten-Free. and comes in a 30g jar.”
I love the minty candy cane smell and taste!
In my opinion… The sugar granules, for both, are quite big which makes the exfoliation more intense, and perhaps a bit harsh. I stupidly rubbed the sugar on the outside of my lips too, and it left them quite red and somewhat sensitive. That said, I would definitely use these again and again. Because of the big granules, they’re ideal for when your lips need a ‘reboot’ and are quite dry and flaky. The big bonus is they taste oh so yummy!
Rodial Lip Scrub
In my opinion… This scrub is gentle and the pen-like applicator makes it easy and convenient to use on the go. It does not taste as pleasant as the Jeffree Star scrub but it’s mild enough to lick your lips after.
L’Oreal Smooth & Glow Face Scrub
L’Oreal Purify & Unclog Pure Sugar Scrub
What they say… This Pure Sugar Scrub is made of three naturally derived sugars (brown, blonde & white) and enhanced with real Kiwi Seeds. This light, gel-like sugar scrub is truly kind to your skin because the scrubbing particles eventually melt and harsh exfoliation is prevented. Purify and unclog pores for soft, smooth skin. See effective results immediately. Can also be used to smooth and refine your lips.
In my opinion… these work really well, and of course, are not just for your lips. Perfect for when you’re cleaning and exfoliating your face to just include your lips. While they smell good, they don’t taste great so I don’t recommend licking your lips immediately after!
