The Zurich Christmas Village opened on Sechseläutenplatz on November 19, to the delight of the city of Zurich, families and visitors from around the world. On the piazza between Bellevue and the Opera house you will find around 100 enchanting cottages creating a cosy village, inviting you to browse, shop, dine and linger. The cottages offerings include traditional Christmas gifts, home accessories, jewellery, and various design items. In addition, one will also find a wonderful array of food stalls, which will alternate during the 36 days. You will find some favourites from the Zurich Street Food Festivals that we’ve come to know and love and a small selection of new suppliers with some interesting and tasty dishes to try.
The market offers a pre-Christmas entertainment program ranging from Fairytale storytelling hours to daily and free “musical Advent Calendar” in the foyer of the Opera House.
Personally, I find this market a welcome addition to the Christmas season. Even though it’s much smaller then the Zurich station Christkindlimarkt, it offers so much more and is far less commercialised. Truth be told that after 11 years of me going to the station market, I’m quite bored of the same stands and the same products and basically the same layout year after year.
