“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” ~Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady
Spring has certainly arrived in all its sunny yet chilly beauty. The lake shore was filled to the brim with sun-seekers who all seem to have come out of hibernation yesterday.
I could think of nothing better than sipping a cup of tea and enjoying the view of the lake; so following a recommendation from The Girlfriend Guide, I invited a friend to join me for afternoon tea at the Eden au Lac, a hotel directly across the lake.
The tea room / lounge was bright and sunny with huge comfy chairs,crisp white linen and shiny cutlery;
so no, I don’t feel bad for not sitting outside at the lake, this was definitely the better option in my opinion!
The finger sandwiches (cottage cheese, salmon egg and of course cucumber) were just perfect in size and quantity. With my friend and I indulging in the scones and savoury delights, I have to admit that we didn’t even look to see what sweets were on the top tier, though it looked like fruit cake and shortbread.
Having such a sweet tooth, I loved the mini scones (both plain and with raisins) served with fresh cream and strawberry and apricot jams.
After tea we took a walk along the lake taking in some more sun and people watching. We came across a these rock balancing displays –I’ve always found them fascinating.
So, if you’re in the mood for a relaxed afternoon with friends in a friendly atmosphere and delightful treats, I recommend making a reservation at the Eden au Lac and going for tea. At CHF29 per person its far from expensive (compare this to going to a restaurant for lunch??) and if you want to add Prosecco to the mix it’s CHF39 per person – definitely value for money by Zurich standards for sure!
